The use of solar sails and very long pistons that propell the craft forwards

I dont want to go to in depth as I'm asking if anyone heard anything like it, before I try get it patented
Its only an interplanetary method aswell

In regards to patent research, this is not the place to conduct a thorough review of previous works.

Seems for a piston to work, it must push against something. Also, a piston tends to move in two directions. That would appear to work against itself as a means of propulsion.

How have you sorted those factors out?
