Would you mind calming down a bit?

The only reason it was suggested to create a seperate thread for Dark Matter refutation is that to keep discussing it here would be detracting from the discussion, which is specifically that the origin of the MW and Andromeda are similar.

Dark matter is a perfectly valid topic. Trying to refute it is perfectly valid as well. Just not in this thread.

That's all, really.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

GREAT! Start a thread, and stop wasting my time; I would, but I don't have a freaking clue where to start. *IT* would be appropriate for you to provide a link, as well, so that my team knows where the *WAR* is, for you have made *IT* very clear on your not so hidden *EVIL AGENDA* who you want banned, and if you think I am going to *KISS YOUR BUTT* to get off your blacklist, ... well, [TYPE FALLACY HERE].

I AM CALM*** I have my coffee too, so lets get it on.

^^^steve, i dunno what's happening, but i find myself agreeing with you more and more as this warfare unfolds. wow. we're in agreement more and more on scienctific and political issues, as i've seen in free space.

your point about the two, rather polarized, camps to explain gravity is yet another example of a fundamental flaw in current reasoning, with the explanation of the galactic formation from the article being yet another wild goose chase attempt to cover the **hind quarters** of the establishment who are really unaware of more things than they will ever admit to publically. as a whole, the article in question is more akin to pure fantasy than fact.

amen, brother.

I *WILL* talk about alternatives to mainstream science, in which "Mainstream Science" is fallacy, and if any of you get political and/or religious, I *WILL* call you on it. [You = Moderators, Secret Police, Administrators, CIA, NSA, HLS, President Bush, etc...], and if any of you *ABUSE* your power, I will write *SPACE.COM ADMINISTRATION* a 1000-word executive summary, and build a case against you in a very compelling way.

..., So where do we battle, for a line has been drawn in the sands of time for all to see; minions from both camps are lining up on both sides for *ONE* decisive battle that will end this *MADNESS* once and for all.

LOL!!! LOL!!! LOL!!!

IN CONTEXT:
"Probably, both galaxies got started within a half billion years of the Big Bang, and over the next three to four billion years, both were building up in the same way by protogalactic fragments containing smaller groups of stars falling into the two dark-matter haloes," Chapman explains.

and now the real message:

'probably...smaller groups of stars falling into the two dark-matter haloes...are probably nothing but mere guesses based on very frail assumptions about galactic evolution and gravity itself. we don't really have any idea what we're talking about."
All right, last warning folks. Get back on topic, or start a new thread. One more post not about the possible common histories of Andromeda and the Milky Way and I will lock this thread.

For those who can't figure out where a thread exploring dark matter in detail would be appropriate, please refer to the titles of the forums. I suggest Space Science & Astronomy for starters.

For those referring to this as a "war".....

Anyone who wishes to conduct a war rather than have a sensible discussion are not welcome here. It is not about killing the other side. It is about discussing various subjects. If anyone attempts to start a flamewar just because they are miffed that people dare have contrary views, they will find themselves in very hot water.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

for public record, for the reader:

directly from the article:
In addition to being metal-poor, the stars of the halo follow random orbits and are not in rotation. By contrast, the stars of Andromeda's visible disk are rotating at speeds upwards of 200 kilometers per second.

According to Ibata, the study could lead to new insights on the nature of dark matter. "This is the first time we've been able to obtain a panoramic view of the motions of stars in the halo of a galaxy," says Ibata. "These stars allow us to weigh the dark matter, and determine how it decreases with distance."

they will not be able to directly or even indirectly "weigh" this dark matter, as it is not there. they will only infer it's "weight" based upon an assumption that it even exists, and they will then derive an estimated amount based upon a model that is not reflecting any mode of reality whatsoever.

the reality is there is no such damn thing as dark matter, and the article stands as propaganda masquerading as news. and that is what the flamewar is about. it is about protectionism of propaganda versus revealing it for what it really is. this is why we refute it's validity specific to the actual article and not in a generic thread about dark matter in general. it is important to directly reveal the specifc nature of the lying in the article to pinpoint how the media and mainstream science articles perpetuate the hypnotic effects of disinformation.

I'll let that slide since at least this time you're mentioning Andromeda. But please, if you want to discuss dark matter in more detail, start a thread specifically for that. It's a very big topic and cannot receive its due treatment here without displacing the discussion about Andromeda.

I'll even start a new thread for you, how's that?

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
