No, this object has not come yet...MW says it'll come in about 8 hours. But, a few days ago, I saw somewhere this thing has passed us? What's going on here? Something is fishy??? I believe I saw it listed a few days ago at Tom's Asteroid Flybys...

Seriously, something maybe fishy...I really saw this object listed on Tom's Ateroid Flyby page days ago and it was supposed to flew past earth days ago. How come it's still here now and just now Nasa lists it? And it's not on Tom's page anymore either. something just isn't right...can someone please explain?

Also, on the JPL projection page, it puts the closest approach on February 1 at .006 AU (558,000) miles, roughly 2 LD. But the Impact risk page put the close approach date as january 31 at .8 lunar distance. That's a BIG difference in the distance. What's going on?

You are confused. The one that went by the other day was 2007 TU24.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. No, it's in a completely different orbit; not even close.
And as you pointed out 2008 BC15 has made the rsik page, with very small chances of impacting earth in 2072 and 2094, however it's not a very large object.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Orbit program has it on the other side of the sun in 2072 July 23rd and near Jupiter in 2094 July 22nd and today doesn't even make the impact risk with just .0019AU "Close Approach" at 1300. Go figure? 20 observations in just a half day so far.

cyclonebuster:

As stated in the disclaimer right above the orbit program, you cannot use the applet for decades in the future, so that projection, while entertaining, is useless.

"Note: Make sure you have Java enabled on your browser to see the applet. This applet is provided as a 3D orbit visualization tool. Man, didn't you just post that a few days ago with the second half of it highlighted? We used to have a "beating a dead horse" one or two.

I still think ??123 was confused, but maybe his source was.
I'll reread the exact posts, then comment here:

I have posted everything I have learned as soon as I learned it.

All the sources are available, I don't post them because many others do.
If anyone wants the latest data and can't find the links, just ask and they shall be supplied.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I wasn't referring to Glory - I was referring to the multiple repost of the 2-body solution notice/warning/caution

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

It got to be 2008 BC 15, since that's the closest approach in quite a while 0.8 Lunar Distance).
See the thread in SS&A on 2007 VK184 et al for some links to the other objects of interest.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I realized that, how many times do you have to repeat the same warnings?? Some people will never expend the effort to understand orbital dynamics.

123 glory was not who I was directing the comment toward.
I still think he/she got confused, or the link he/she referred to got confused. But that is different than my reply to cyclonebuster, which is the one that thunks.

As I've stated before, I go right to neo.jpl and NEODys so there is no chance of a transcription error.

MW

But the Krell forgot one thing John. The beauty (crime?) is that you don't need to understand anything about orbital dynamics/physics. You really only have to grasp the statement: "Don't use this tool. In fact, stop looking at this page. Really. I mean it. Shoo. Go away. Scat. Ya botherin' me kid, I said ya botherin' me, now Scram."

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

The latest accurate data is available under the Horizons link.
It's called an Ephemeris.

Of course, 65 years from now, that too will be innacurate, as the osculating orbital elements change.

But to assume that the orbit animation is accurate while ignoring the disclaimer printed right above it....

Sheesh.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I don't find Tom's page particularly useful.
Good for people who want to get overly excited, though.

I link to the source he uses, and another 2, so can monitor everything at once as new data comes in.

Since this is not an absolute science, it's good to look at multiple sources.

MW

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
