And which also gave the CMPs a chance to do a 'deep space' EVA to go retrieve film cassettes during the coast home.

obviously the "deep space" EVAs done to retrieve the film canisters are the furthest EVAs save for the walks on the Moon ...<br /><br />how far out were these done and were they free float or tethered?

IIRC, the EVAs were conducted about 180,000 miles from earth. The astronaut was definetely tethered, somewhere there is a pic of one SIM EVA showing the tether connected to the astronaut. I looked for any links that specified the distance but couldn't find any distance refs in the links I checked out. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><strong>My borrowed quote for the time being:</strong></p><p><em>There are three kinds of people in life.
