ARIES is an Italian full reusable spacecraft concept alternative to KLIPPER. ARIES is launched from LIRA,an totally unmanned, remote controll, winged booster.ARIES-A (command/service module) can fly too like a winged body launched from am Arianne-5 booster. The modified ARIES-A is the comand module for future lunar ferry C2S2.

That’s awesome! It’s STS done right!

All reusable with no solids an escape module. It would be amazing if ESA could get funding for system like this but I really doubt it.

…But if we could stop wasting money on French and Irish cows we could afford to build this, no problem.

Carp,

Do you have any more info about this proposal?
How much would it cost?
Who’s backing it?
What’s the ordinal web site that the pictures are from?
This is a very well done concept, I especially like the modularity of the orbiter vehicle, which should allow the A and B modules to be tested aboard the Ariane prior to full system testing, and the full Aries and Lira vehicles can be independently flight tested as well. I also like that it's not trying to be all things to all customers, as what happened with STS.

ARIES-C can be left in orbit while A/B mates with a lunar transtage.

One question: there should be an unwinged/unmanned version that just recovers the propulsion module of ARIES, dumping the tanks and cargo doors. It seems that this is only meant for passengers, unless you intend to launch satellites through the airlock door...

Gaeto would be delighted with it!

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

Gaeto would be delighted with it!
He would be especially "delighted" with its cost.

I knew about the German Hopper/Phoenix programme, but not this one. It is an interesting concept, but I don't leave it much chance of getting ESA funding.
