Due to the escalation in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Department of Defense has become desparate to find personell to deploy to these warzones. Because of this the DOD has started a pilot program with NASA to take astronauts that are not currently training for a mission and deploying them to Bagdad.

When some astronauts protested, saying that they didn't sign up for war, they were rebuffed when they were shown the clause in their contracts.

"It's all in there in the fine print," a NASA spokesperson said in a recent press confrence, "when you sign up for the astronaut service, you sign up for eight years total. For as an active astronaut, training for a mission, another four in what is called the Inactive Astronaut Reserve. While in the IAR, even though they are not neccicarily on the NASA payroll, they can still be called up for active service."

Here we can see the STS-115 crew prepairing for their deployment to Iraq in a NASA M113A1 armored personell carrier:

So, again we are defeated.
