I think someone mentioned in the STS-120 thread that Clay was reading out a list of every city in Nebraska, so that might explain it.

mmm, I dont think that was, as it wasn't in any of his list segments, it was said during an all hands PAO event or spacewalk....

It's not Moichi, but Bo-Ichi. It's a nickname the crew gave Dan Tani. Before the STS-120 flight, during their TCDT the entire crew wore nametags showing a new nickname.

I think it was based on Pam's callsign "Pambo", which was given to her by the commander of her first flight, Brian Duffy. That in turn led to George Zamka being called "Zambo", Scott Parazynski was "Longbow", Stephanie Wilson was "Robeau", Doug Wheelock "Flambo, Paolo Nespoli "Rocky" (not sure why there was such a difference for his and Dan's callsign) and lastly Dan Tani was Bo-Ichi.

Ahh ok! I was familiar with everyone else's nicknames, but didn't know he was referring to Dan - didn't see his nametag during training. That's cool though, thank you for the info!

heres what i found here at SDC.

In reply to:

A close look showed that Melroy, who will be only the second woman to command a shuttle mission, was wearing a name tag that read "Pambo." The nickname was given to her by former astronaut Brian Duffy. The rest of the crew followed suit.

Velcroed on Zamka's chest was a name tag that read "Zambo." Parazynski, who is about 6 feet 4 inches tall, was "Longbow."

Wilson, a robot arm operator, was "Robeau," and Wheelock -- a guy who can start a campfire with wet sticks -- was "Flambo."

Tani, the second Asian-American to fly in space, was "Bo-Ichi," and Nespoli was just "Rocky" because no one could figure out a good "Bo" nickname for the Italian astronaut, who looks a little like Sylvester Stallone.

I was thinking Rocky was dubbed because he's Italian, and they couldn't think of a solid name that'd work for him. Stephanie was nicknamed Robo (or Robeaux) because she got mad skills on the RMS. Longbow, because the dude's friggin tall for an astronaut. 6'4's pretty helpful when you gotta handle poking things through holes in an active solar panel.
