I heard they're making a new blade runner starring Vin Diesel and Kate Beckinsale, with Christian Bale as Roy Batty and Courtney Love as Pris. Can anyone confirm this?

No, the only thing I can do is express contempt and disgust at the idea.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

I hope that is a joke. I think Blade Runner is the best SciFi adaptation ever made. Hollywood seems intent on trashing every classic ever made these days.

There has been a rumor of a remake for ages, but AFAIK the only Blade Runner coming out is a 25th anniversary "final re-edit" by Ridley Scott.

When BR first came out it went over budget and the guarantors forced changes in the release version. 10 years later Scott did a re-edit, but again budgetary restraints limited what he could do.

Last year Warner lost rights to the BR source material, but regained it this year so they could do the 2007 "final" version with all the bells and whistles. I hear the top package will include all 3 edits.

Arguing against Vin Diesel, other than common sense, is that he'll be tied up until 2009 by the 3 movies he's already involved with;

RockFish (2007) (filming)
Babylon A.D. (2007) (filming)
Hannibal the Conqueror (2008) (preproduction)(directing)

Yeah, I mean and while they're at it - why not a remake of Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Schindler's List, 2001: A Space Oddyssey.

If they use Vin Diesel, then they should get Ice T as well. The whole film would be in a monotone and you could save money on sound people.

Throw in Gilbert Gottfried as any victim you can name - he's so annoying, whichever Replicant terminates him will gain sympathy with the audience.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Oh, dear God WHY??!! Can't these people leave well enough alone? Can't they just try something new? Or better yet, bring back something decent like Whedon's 'Firefly'.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

I was wondering then, was Mike J. "Toto" then?

IIRC, he played the scarecrow. Nipsy Russel played the tinman and Richard Pryor was the Wizard. Diana Ross played Dorothy.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078504/
