I don't get it at all. I mean, the name is Starbuck, not Stardoe. It's about as macho a name as I can think of in a futuristic sci-fi setting, and they've given it to a girl. Very weird.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

The original (male) Starbuck did a lot more for me. (I'm a woman, so I tend not to be impressed by attractive females. Attractive males on the other hand.... )

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

"Old Starbuck = Great Card Shark
New Starbuck = Good Card Player"

Now now, the new Starbuck is also a great player. It's just that in the original series Baltar was a vicious traitor hiding in a basestar but the new Baltar on Galactica is a gigolo-genious who plays too

Aside from him...hmmm...Apollo, maybe?

To be perfectly honest, I haven't watched it. I liked the old Battlestar Galactica. I don't want Cylons that look like attractive women. They're supposed to be armored things with a red glowing light going back and forth. That's very important! I also got warned off it by friends who'd seen the pilot. Is it better than the pilot?

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

The armoured ones are in it, the clones were part of the invasion plan. There is no way it would have worked unless they had agents on the ground.

I would like to see the Ruling Cylons..or are they the Clones now running around on Caprica ?

You have to see the Pilot Calli...

When the Cylons finally showed up to that 40 yr old meeting ..and the Doors opened up to 2 Cool Robot Cylons..

but Lost something when the Blonde took charge

I definitely Miss the >"By Your Command"<
Dave..

Ah, well that's okay, then, I guess.

Although I agree. They have to say "By your command." That's very important. It's like a Dalek that doesn't say "Exterminate!" or a Borg who doesn't say "Resistance is futile!"

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Ive been visiting various boards discussing the new series, which I love.

What astounds me is the degree of irrational hatred the new series has generated among a small but vocal group of fans of the old series.

They feel that they were somehow betrayed.

I think for those fans of the original series of BSG (like myself) the new series is a poor imitation. Personally, I do like the idea of remakes and would try to be supportive of any sci-fi remake. It's just that some series manage to carry it off, and some don't. Like this Starbuck as a girl idea ... it's a cutsie idea but ultimately doesn't work for all the reasons discussed earlier in the thread. By all means introduce a female character or characters if you want to show that feminism has hit BSG's part of the galaxy, but don't go messing with the core cast. Starbuck should have been a guy in the new series.

And who cast Crockett and Tubb's boss ... I mean, come on, where's the pastel!

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Then again you have people on the other side of the spectrum like me. I never liked the original series and really had no intention in watching this new one. However I have found myself very entertained with the episodes that I've seen so far.
