Can we design a lunar mission?

I've noticed an increase in the number of universities launching satellites. However, beyond the abandoned TransOrbital attempt, no group - private or academic - has made a serious attempt at a lunar lander.<br /><br />On Space.com we have a well of knowledge. We have scientists, engineers and business people. Many of those on the boards have actively worked in aeronautical and space programs. The cumulative years of experience is substantial.<br /><br />So, the question is: can we design and construct our own unmanned lunar mission?
