Our visibile Universe is but one Universe in a sea of them, much as our Galaxy is one of many. I am willing to wager our visible Universe takes the form of a Galaxy when seen from the outside, most likely a Spiral Galaxy. I won't live long enough to see that perspective proven/disproven, but it makes too much sense to ignore.

I had a very difficult time grasping why (in a spherical "balloon" model of the universe) one couldn't look to the center of the sphere.

Until I realized that the "surface of the balloon" IS the balloon in its entirety. Anything "inside the balloon" is not observable in 3 dimensions.

Which would negate the possibility of a "center" being observable.

I'm very happy with any universe that isn't "flat". If it were, I'd be back to not understanding why I can't look back to an observable "center".
"2012.. Year of the Dragon!! same deal with the "flat" universe. So see a center you'd have to look in a direction not allowed by the three spatial axis.

You'd have to look "up" where that is forbidden (just like looking towards the center in a balloon doesn't work).

You can exceed "C" if space carries you, as opposed to moving through it.

I'll chat about it later (probably tommorrow). Basically you end up with a "frozen image" that's analogous to how the images are frozen going past a BH's event horizon.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
