This is a hugely ambitious mission considering that they have never even sent an orbiter to Mars but to also attempt a lander and a rover is quite a leap. Mars is a much harder target to land on than the moon. If they are successful it would be a huge accomplishment but I think it’s 50-50 at best that they successfully land and deploy a rover but good luck to them.

“If the mission as a whole is successful, China will become the third nation to land and the second to rove on the Red Planet. (The U.S. and Russia are the only nations to land on Mars to date and the only rovers have been sent by the U.S.) “

If by “landing” you mean crashing then yes the Soviet Union (not Russia) did “land” on Mars. But since you are including crashes then you must include the UK’s ill fated Beagle lander as well.

It's going to be funny when this blatant MER ripoff splatters over the martian landscape.

The Soviet Mars 3 lander did at least send radio signals after the landing, although only for a few seconds. That is something neither Beagle 2 nor Shiaparelli did.
