hi Anthmartian
Brellis : Maybe you yourself would like to focus on a few forum topics covered here which you feel would make good features for the disc. I would be happy to have a go at presenting the feature as best i can visualy. Maybe you could approach those involved in the discussions you've selected, and explain what we're doing. Requesting or asking permission to use their posts, or even a narration for the video sequence?

Maybe we could find a narrator within our ranks here?

So far my plan is to one by one build a feature on each major ongoing space mission in 2007. Each will feature slide shows, any video released, my own animations of still images from those missions, plus any content which members have created around those missions. For example enhanced imagery as seen in the New Horizons topic, and colour Mars views from the Rovers. I also dabble in CG, so there may well be some stuff like that ( i sometimes take real data and work on it in 3d animation software )

I'm leaning towards using a narrator rather than covering the wondrous images with a bunch of type. Annotations like those on the Io image at the end of the preview are great, but it's much easier to digest more detailed descriptions as narration. Perhaps the DVD could have a cooked-down narration that encapsulates the details of the discoveries, then have some chapters on the menu where one can read through the collected thread highlights.

Anyhoo, I've got my digging tools at the ready, and.....SHUMPF! nexius, littledreamer, spacester : Thanks for your words of encouragement. This is the kind of project i would be happy to do just for myself. But, if it can be seen and enjoyed by others, that makes it even better.

Why06 : My Youtube page is here...

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=AnthMartian

The top 2 additions are the 2 preview videos.

If you or anybody else wants a higher quality viewing. Or would like to make a video disc you can download these files...

VCD.
http://s19.quicksharing.com/v/2087743/preview_vcd_proper.rar.html

DVD
http://s19.quicksharing.com/v/70712/preview_sdc_dvd_track.rar.html

You will need "Win Rar" to unzip these files. No way is it practical to do the topic derived features just with text. We definitely need a narrator. For instance, i would estimate that for each paragraph you have copied and pasted you would need at least 40 seconds of screen time. This adds up to quite a long running time for a video. More work too from a video point of view.

You also have to cater for all when putting text on the screen. Keeping the text up for a longer than average time for slower readers, then faster readers become bored waiting, etc. There is no end of problems.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Just a quick update on the project.

As of the time of typing this over 1500 people have viewed related project video on Youtube. Over 30 people have downloaded the high res video versions of the special preview too. 100 views of the project web page in just two weeks also suggest this could be an exciting project to be involved with.

This is all good news, as it reinforces hopes i had that this could serve as a great form of space advocacy and public outreach to the general public, and also hopefully entertain enthusiasts such as those here.

Upcoming releases are...

New Horizon's - Jupiter Encounter. ( preliminary findings and data from the close fly past. With original 3d and 2d computer animations, and amazing moving images, plus enhanced views of mission images. )

Spirit At Home Plate. ( Insights into the fascinating findings at this site of high scientific interest. )

Mission To Io. ( 3488 ( Andrew Brown ) proposes an exciting mission to the volcanic moon, and outlines the fascinating facts about this stunning world. )

A feature on Enceladus is also being worked on by Brellis. Who is also hard at work co-ordinating music with other member musicians!

If you would like to see a video feature on your favourite subject within Space Exploration/ Space Science. Please post here. We will see how we can get it off the ground.

The latest news on the project can be found here...

http://anthmartian.googlepages.com/sdcdvdproject

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Hi all.

Just an update. I have been busy working on a "New Horizons - Jupiter Encounter" video feature. It is very nearly complete. Now i have my hands on the latest batch of image releases, i feel its a good time to finish up and complete the film.

A preview of it can be found here.

http://anthmartian.googlepages.com/thisislandearth

I have also begun preparations on a Iapetus feature. Which i will produce with new member, Spin0.

Hopefully, i can send the completed video to Brellis very soon. Who can work his magic and add another fantastic music score as he did with the preview track.

i am quite nervous about the New Horizon's feature. I narrated myself, aswell as my usual contributons in images, animations, and editing etc. New Horizons video has some amazing stuff featured, from enhanced images by myself and Andrew "3488" Brown to time lapse movies of approaches, rotations, eruptions, also 2d and 3d animations which have never been seen before. it is very exciting to see the images and content on a big screen, such as a TV screen.

it was my intention to gather together a compilation of videos from all areas of space exploration. To produce a disc. However, i now feel that releasing individual features is the way to go. it will keep things more relevant, and topical at the times of the release.

As always, you are free to join this venture at any time, in what ever capacity you feel you can manage. if you fancy yourself as a writer of a docu style video, or feel you can narrate i would be very interested in hearing from you. if you work with images, or can produce video, please join us.

this will be an ongoing project. It is designed to entertain, and interest fellow space enthusiasts, and hopefully will also serve to promote space exploration within the general public.

htt</safety_wrapper

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! It is very good indeed.

I am creating large image DVDs to back up images. Mostly images available on the web via Planetary Photojournal, etc,
many I have enhanced myself as well as Anthmartian's, rlb2's, swampcat's, etc.

I would be prepared to make copies of these & send them, as like a companion disk.

I will be sending more material to you Anthmartian shortly.

Also have you checked the Cassini update thread today.

There is news on there about newly Radar imaged lakes near Titan's south pole
this time. That could go on the DVD maybe, as already you have some good
stuff on the northern lakes.

Glad to have been of some help with New Horizons & the Iapetus stuff.

If you want it, I have some great Comet Tempel 1 Deep Impact stuff too.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Andrew : I would really like anything you can put together. For my own personal collection, and for future projects. I am sure a data DVD stacked full of the best images would appeal to many and would be great to accompany the disc(s).

I saw the new Titan stuff tonight, amazing! I have been hoping somebody would put a map like that together for some time. You're right, there is a lot that can be done with that image for this project. As you know i did an animation with just one strip featured in that collection of radar images. That was fun, and interesting.

I do want to look at Iapetus next, but i am thinking of an opening sequence which flies past Saturn and its moons. Just as an excuse to feature that Titan image release really! lol

I also have some fantastic new global maps of Rhea, Dione, Enceladus, and Tethy's. I have experimented with them and they look incredibly photo realistic in animations.

so many places to visit!

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Thanks Deepfreeze.

I have just put in place a new way for members here, and other visitors to my site to download any DVD related material in the large file formats, rather than just seeing the smaller You Tube versions.

http://anthmartian.googlepages.com/thisislandearth

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy!
