I'm thinking of buying a 127mm mak and an accessory correct image star diagonal for use with it, plus would like to be able to use that in other refractors as well.

I see two for the same price on telescope.com

07216 1.25" 45° Correct-Image Diagonal
08787 1.25" Correct-Image Star Diagonal

7216 requires 5/8" more focus travel, the webpage says. otherwise, is there a benefit to getting the 8787 model? I want the one that has the superior optics but also want one that is compatible with most any refractor or mak that Id like to use with it.

can anyone help me out with expert opinions? thanks very much!

Only use for a correct image diagonal is terrestrial viewing, it's not used in astronomy. (well hardly ever anyway) With a 125 mak the image will be reversed left/right but it will be right side up anyway, same with a refractor. (OK if you use a diagonal) Straight through a reflector is reversed left/right and upside down. Reflectors views are upside down and it never bothers anyone.

Even number of mirrors upside down, (0 or 2) odd number of mirrors right side up. (1 or 3) A mak has 3 mirrors. Thanks for answering my post! I believe I will be using it as a spotting scope too. It going to come with a equatorial mount, but I'd like to use it on a sturdy camera tripod or alt-az mount during the day, on vacation. I wonder if any type of extra mounting bracket would be required. BTW, here is the mak I'm thinking about purchasing

http://www.telescope.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=149146&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=4&iSubCat=10&iProductID=149146

and below is the other tripod I'd like to be able to attach it to during the daytime: (does it need a bracket?)
http://www.telescope.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=290&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=6&iSubCat=24&iProductID=290

or would one of these camera tripod be better, and would I need a braket for it?

http://www.telescope.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=78&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=6&iSubCat=24&iProductID=78
I think all 125 mak's are useless, more so if made by Orion (Synta). The only product Orion (Synta) has worth the money are their dobs.

Save more money and get an 8" SCT (either the Meade or the Celestron) after all you are talking about investing almost $1000 in a scope/mount and an extra mount. What you are looking at isn't even motor driven.

www.siriuslookers.org

I've got the XT10 already

..believe I will just get a spotting scope for carrying along with me on vacation. It's difficult to find the right attachments for those maks.
