Hello all,

On 8 october a Rockot LV from Plestek will loft a new bird into orbit. There is a real good overview of the recent activities to be found on http://www.eurockot.com/alist.asp?cat_id=100&main=3&subm=100

Very intresting pictures of the plestek facilities, the upperstage and the bird.

Certainly worth bookmarking for the next couple of weeks to see how they progress slowly from moving the sattelite from to testing and integration. All done with Ze German effeciency and eye for detail

So go check it out...

Wow, those balistic missle derived launch vehicles sure are reliable aren't they?

Reliable to fail.

No, that's just why Russia built so many of them. At least a few would be bound to make it, while the rest would fall on Canada.

Are you thinking of the Icesat satellite using optical lasers?

If you're interested (well, I'm not sure you are), the root cause of failure is identified as a missing separation command from Breeze-KM upper stage control system. The first two stages performed nominally, but the Breeze-KM didn't go. Khrunichev Center blames Khartron, Ukrainian manufacturer of the control system. If confirmed, this may lead to another witchhunt for Ukrainian hardware on Russian LVs and spacecrafts.

Pffff

it's a sad loss

The second launch failure of a ICBM converted LV this year

But shuttle guy, don't worry about your safety, the Russian strategic forces did launch 3 SLBM succesive within a month recently

First failure of the Breeze family as far as I know.

>The Cyrosat mission was to be similiar I believe to the Shuttle Radar Topography mission, I believe. <

Yeah, STS-99 (Endeavour) was similar as such - just without the Polar Orbit (obviously).
