Elon is always thinking of upgrade paths. The Falcon 1 has a single Merlin 1C engine. Bundle 9 of those same engines together and you get the Falcon 9. Bundle 3 Falcon 9s together (with 27 Merlin 1 engines) and you get the Falcon 9 heavy. Then the Merlin 2 engines will come online which push the Falcon's into the super heavy class.

On the top is the Dragon cargo, followed by the Dragon crew, followed by the Dragon Lab, ...

This guy definitely builds roadmaps into the future with each stage building on the capabilities, knowledge, and experience gained from the previous stages.

Does he have an eye on beyond LEO? I am sure he does.

Not done any calcs, but how about as a thought experiment;

Lunar enhanced Dragon crew rendezvous with lander + refueled cryo 2nd stage as EDS
