So, I'm back with more questions. The second stage of four (4) generally agreed upon mental developmental stages for is the Preoperational stage, from about 2 years old to about seven (7) years old. During this time children develop symbolic thinking and language skills. So, based on this:

What sort of activities could be employed to educate toddler to pre-adolescents, targeting outer space?

Compare the apparent size of the Moon when on the horizon and when high in the sky. Explain what an "optical illusion" is.

Put a stick in the ground. Trace the shadow of the tip with a rock to determine a line going from west to east.

Use a tilted ball and a light source to explain the seasons.

The whole education system is messed up , they teach mostly garbage stuff . Perhaps your question should say , why does education teach rubbish to children !

Humans (neurological reference frames) are formed from letters that then construct words . Without words , humans do not exist , humanity becomes Feral .

Perhaps you should learn the N.R.F before you ask such a question on education .

Don't exist → Conception → Feral Fetus → Feral Newborn → alphabet → words → delta human

Darwin hadn't a clue ! Humans are a thought , the body they exist in , is highjacked by education !

''My words don't feel anything '' said sanity to the world !

Good stuff, thank you!

I've already asked that question to myself, and is why I'm exploring more sane and effective means of education. I know that a huge content load in modern "education" is nonsensical and unhelpful at best, harmful at worst.

Well education isn't difficult if the model is designed correctly . The thing is , education doesn't just teach people existing knowledge , it forms humanity . So because of this , it is imperitive to create an exact model of education because effectively education writes humanity .
I would suggest the Neurological Reference Frame teaching and learning style is the most effective to educate people and write humanity . This may sound complex but it is actually really easy to teach using this method !

I agree that language is a fundamental determinant of intellect and ability. They act as buffers of knowledge to engage higher levels of reasoning without having to redefine basic ideas in every interaction with the world. It allows for logical thought, and abstraction to consider new information and assigned definitions. Otherwise, yes, we're just animals following instinct, every interaction is new and every response is ignorant.

My feeling on the matter of space education is that it would be good to build up those definitions early, in ways that foster understanding as the world becomes more complex. Imagine how much easier ballistics would be understood, and how much earlier, if it was first understood on a more basic level at a younger age. This is already happening with stuff like Kerbal Space Program. You have kids who can compute Hohmann transfer orbits at fifteen years old because they were having fun with it in Kerbal at age ten. I mean to expand on that sort of educational progression.
