I don't know if the presidential debates will interfere. I don't know if UPN even carries the debates. But http://www.startrek.com says that the season opener is tonight. Don't forget.

Wow, what an opener, this season is going to rock! Fascinating spin on history with the Germans controlling the whole Northeast of the US.

I watched it on CityTV. It was also on UPN, supposedly, I don't have that channel so I don't know.

BTW I'm in Ottawa, Ontario.

Somebody is going to have to explain to me how blowing up the conduit *after* Earth's history has been changed will correct the history that's already been changed before the conduit blew up.

In other words: I dislike time travel stories. I wish they'd never come up with this Temporal Cold War in the first place.

I watched this show and didn't see any ethnic pandering -- I saw a cool sci-fi story. About the only thing I did notice was that everyone used the word "colored" and not a single person used the N-word. Not sure how realistic that was since it was before my time. But I have seen old pictures of restrooms labeled "Whites" and "Colored".

NASAWATCH, I watched the episode and honestly saw no evidence of pandering. I'm a right-wing neocon as well, so nobody can accuse me of sticking up for a political kindred spirit. You can't find someone who despises PC Thought Police more than I do, but c'mon. The Nazi ideology was a reflection of the prevailing attitude among much of the Western intelligentsia in the early 20th century. We Americans demonize the Nazis in hindsight, mostly because of the Holocaust, but the mindset they represent was common throughout the West. Even here in the USA.

My horrifyingly un-PC 'what if' question is: Would the Jews have hated Hitler so much post-WWII if he hadn't embraced anti-semitism? Most of Hollywood is frankly controlled by Jews, and like it or not Hollywood determines how the average person views history. Would we see so many stories vilifying the Nazis as evil people, or would some other authoritarian regime have become an icon of human injustice?

I usually dislike time travel stories because that whole genre of sci-fi has been beaten to death by endless repetition. However, I enjoyed this episode greatly and will make time to watch all the following new "Enterpise" episodes this season. A job well done, in my opinion.

Well, they might not have had much choice about what time they arrived. If they did have a choice, they might have chose that pre-nuke era because it did have the electrical facilities to power their conduit and rudimentary technology. But it didn't have nukes which would have wiped it out.

We're not talking about Star Trek crews -- we're talking about aliens in the temporal cold war. They got a one-way ticket to Earth and then had to build a conduit for the return trip. Maybe they didn't have anti-nuke shielding with them.

Why don't you start another thread on this topic rather than sidetracking this one off on a racial tangent?

I didn't tell you to stop discussing it. I merely suggested making it its own thread.

What are you talking about?

They went back in time to an alternate WWII scenario where the Nazis have progressed to North America.

Nazi = Aryan = blue eyed, blonde hair

Period. There's no racial slandering, nor racial stereotyping. You aren't going to find black Nazis, or brown-haired brown-eyed Nazis. If they went to an alternate universe where China was taking over North America, would you call it racial slandering because all of the soldiers were Chinese? No. Could you say that a majority of American Chinese in the alternate universe would be against it? Maybe, but it's irrelevant. Nazi soldiers are Aryan, and Chinese soldiers are Chinese.

Sheesh, you guys know that the only people you can slander and make look bad and NOT be called a racist are White males...
Don't let your sig line incite a gay thread ;>)

Well then I guess Hitler and much of his inner circle couldn't have been Nazis since they had brown hair and eyes. The Nazi Party had millions of members, do you think every single one of them was blonde and blue-eyed? Those characteristics were glorified but they weren't the rules to becoming a Nazi.

oh for goodness sake...no wonder the series is trying to survive another season...everyone is trying to analyse the show to death...
why don't we just sit back and enjoy the series for what it is? a well made science fiction series that tends to cater more to the geeky types as opposed to star wars that appeals to the shoot-and-kill arcade types?
anyway, all i see is some aliens trying to change history but messing with the nazis. i don't think the producers meant it to be historicall accurate.
I think we should all focus on the key issue on how a timeline can eb changed midway as opposed to doing it before all these changes too place...i.e. save Lenin from being assassinated...?

To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before...

Live Long and Prosper
