Faint Fuzzys with a Refractor?

I went to my local telescope store "hands on optics" and after talking to them for a while about doing a little photographer they recommended me gettinig a Stellarvue NexGeneration ED refractor. It's defintily a very nice quality scope (the focouser was so smooth) but i'm worried I wont be able to see much deep-sky with it. They said with the right eye-pieces you could. My choice though is bound between this Stellarvue Refractor, or getting a Celestron 6" OTA Schmidt Cassigrain and putting it on the CG-5 Mount im buying. What do you all think? *or buying the advanced GT series kit

Well in my budget range their is the Celestron C6-SGT <br /><br />http://www.celestron.com/c2/product.php?CatID=11&ProdID=392<br /><br />It's not 8" but what do you all think? I want a little bit of both worlds ya know? A little photograpy and some visual =) <br /><br />

I think i've decided to wait on a telescope until I can afford something I really want! Right now im going to buy a good pair of Celestron 15 x 70 Bincoulars and a SkyQuest 4.5 Inch Dob my friend is selling for 150 bucks and learn the sky. Will that gear get me started? (Also I can go to the star party my club has and look through 10,000 dollar telescopes hehe)

To me, that sounds like a smart choice. The 4.5" (for $150!!) will whet your appetite (we call it aperture fever <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" /> ), and the binocs will be used for the rest of your life.<br /><br />Then you'll have to deide if you want to go dob or tracking scope (dob />$1000 more bank for the buck)...with some experience, you'll know where you want to spend the money for your upgrade.<br /><br />I'd love to have those binoculars.<br />You could spend a month cruising the Milky Way. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font color="#000080"><em><font color="#000000">But the Krell forgot one thing John. Well I contacted my friend about buying the scope and he said his wife is making him sell his GSO 8" Dob as well for $250 w/ 9mm and 25mm eyepieces. Should I go ahead and get that? Is GSO a good company? I never heard of them before LOL

I'm no expert... but I just did a bit of poking around and discovered this review of a GSO 8" Dobsonian.<br /><br />The article was written shortly after the writer had bought the 'scope. Toward the bottom of the article, there's a link to an update that the writer put together after he'd owned the 'scope for a year or so. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <font color="#0000ff"><strong>Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...</strong></font> </div>

Gotcha thanks.. I guess he summed it up to be fairly good I think he was pretty hard on it though haha as far as the secondary mirror being out of place and all, my friends at the telescope shop would fix that and collimnate it for me as best they could haha. I have read good and bad things about this scope. and the orion nothing but good things.. -_- so im not sure

He gave me a little bit more detail about what he had.. here it is<br /><br />GSO stands Guan Sheng Optical in Tiawan. They make the Meade LightBidge and also various other branded Dobsonian's. They are sold under the names X-Class, Deep Space Observer(Mine) and various others. It comes with a 2 in. Crayford style focuser w/ adapter a RACI 50mm finder and a 80mm cooling fan on the back of the mirror cell. Mine was purchased from DBA Astronomy before they merged with Anttler Optics.<br /><br /><br />Now that we have a more clearer brand! Does anyone know anything about these deep space observers?
