Yeah its probably be done before but since we are doing least favourites we should counterpoint it.

You know the rules, Who'd you like and why.

Me first.

TNG-
Geordi - What can I say I share an affinity for the Engineers. Loved the Ep he met Scotty with the Dyson Shpere.
Picard - Probably the best Captain.

DS9-
O'Brian - Again affinity to the Engineer but here was a man I wouldn't mind sharing a pint with and I don't think he would of either.
Bashir - After the first couple of seasons. Again I could go down the pub with this bloke.
Martok- My favourite Klingon
Garek - Deviliously devious
Ezri - Loveliest of the lovelies
As for Episodes, anything involving a big battle with the Defiant or Klingons showing up and kicking butt.

VOY-
Seven - The shining light of a bad bad show

ENT-
The Ship

Alien Races-
Cardasians - A Race that wasn't watered down over time so that we'd like them more or make them less of a foe (as with Klingons, Ferengi, Borg ...) I can't remember a bad Spoon head character.
Klingons - They may of suffered from the above, "okay lets make them goodies" but the did at least keep their Warriorness.

"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring" - Chuck Palahniuk.

My favorite episode of TNG was oddly enough in the first season. It was the episode where the automated arms dealer kept demonstrating more lethal incarnations of a killing machine every 12 minutes. The first few were pretty easy to defeat. Then they got harder and harder until it looked pretty hopeless for the landing party. Viewers at home wondered "How in the heck is Picard going to beat this thing?" Finally, it occurs to Picard that all he has to do is agree to buy the system and the demostration stopped. It was an elegant solution that came as a complete surprise. And thank goodness we didn't have the old Kirk ploy of talking the machine into killing itself. I thought it was thoroughly entertaining.

Yeah, I think it has been done before, but it is always good to look at again.

One of my favorite scenes was when Q met Sisko and was tauting him as he always did Picard. When Sisko had had enough, he just decks him one and knocks Q down. To which Q just responds, "But Picard would never have done that." And Sisko just replies, "But I'm NOT Picard." That is one line I still remember, a near classic one.

I also liked the ep of Picard as Robin Hood with his merrie men, given as a thank you from Q. Added note: a fun ST book to read was "Q-in-law". This was where Deanna Troi's mother got the hots for Q and went out persuing him. Q even went so far as to plead with Picard to give him some help. It has been some years since I read it, but I still remmember it as a very fun read.

I enjoyed every ST: Enterprise episode that had the Andorian starship captain, Shran. The actor did such a great job of making this blue-skinned alien with antennae seem utterly real.

I think I enjoyed the Andorians so much because of their justifiable paranoia about the Vulcans. The Vulcans always seemed so pretentious, with their fortune cookie philosophy and holier-than-thou condescension. I've dealt with real-life human beings who are somewhat like that, and experience has taught me to trust them the least of all.

P.S. Edited for missing word.

You know, I HATED Picard when TNG first aired. He was NOT James T. Kirk, and I resented that.

But after exposure to his character, if I were to serve aboard a starship or a garbage truck, I wouldn't want anyone else in command.

Patrick Stewart was marvelous.
"2012.. I hate to be the fly in the ointment, but I must say that Captain James T. Kirk is my favorite character and is by far the best captain. Don't get me wrong, I loved TNG and think Patrick Stewart did an excellent job of eventually making Picard acceptable to the Star Trek audience...but it took awhile for him to get there. But by comparison, I think Picard is a woos compared to Kirk. I mean, give me a break with Picard's command by committee style with Riker (Kirk wannabe) on his right, and his own personal shrink on his left. Kirk would laugh his ass off to see such a setup on the bridge of his ship. On Kirk's Enterprise there was only one chair in the center of the bridge, and there was no question who it belonged to.

Kirk was in control of his ship and he didn't need a committee to help him make the tough decisions. That was part of the mythos of the original Star Trek. Kirk was Horatio Hornblower, Captain Nemo, and Matt Dillon all rolled into one, with wisdom beyond his years and nerves of steel. He was the classic greek protagonist with his devotion to his ship as his only Achilles heel. You might disagree that William Shatner pulled this off as well as some other actors could have, maybe Jeffry Hunter would have done a better job, but who knows...Shatner got the role because he was better looking, and the rest is history.

My favorite Kirk lines:

Speaking to the leader of the planet with the computer generated war: "I didn't start it, but I'm liable to finish it." (How cool is that!)

Speaking to Charlie X: "There are a million things you can have and a million things you can't have." (I sometimes remind myself of this when I find myself lusting after certain individuals)

Speaking to Sybok in Star Trek V: "I don't want my pain taken away, I need my pain", and then, "I don't need this con man to take me on a tour of my mistakes, that I turned right when I should have turned left" (How self confident is that? I thi

Kirk and Picard were both the best. You also knew Picard was in charge as well. He was lucky enough to have a bigger ship with extra chairs and room for conferences. Kirk asked his officers for feedback as well. He just had an older ship with less room.

Liked Spock.

Like T'Pol and 7 of 9. (Don't you wish she turned around that time?)

Data did a pretty good job.

I do wonder though that since the shows are set in the future, will we ever see nudity in a movie?

And I realize that some of the acting wasn't great but some of that falls of the director.

I had wondered how the Douwds fit into big scheme of advanced races and beings. Was Trelayne perhaps related ?? Or the life forms that rescued Charlie X ??

I was impressed with their power, but also their ability to feel pain, lash out, and regret . .

{from Memory Alpha}
Douwd

A little-known civilization of sentient energy beings capable of assuming the appearance of other life-forms. Possessing awesome powers of creation and destruction, the Douwd considered themselves to be immortal beings of disguised and false surroundings. One member of the Douwd assumed a human identity around 2312, named himself Kevin Uxbridge (pictured), and settled on planet Delta Rana IV in 2361

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

SmallStep,

Speaking of memorable lines, you sparked one about about ST Five and Kirk talking with the bad alien intelligence. He said something to the effect of, "Excuse me, but what does God need a starship for anyway?" Which I thot was a prieceless line anytime.

Yes that was a good line, and further illustrates classic Kirk...For all he knows he is standing in the presence of the Almighty but still, all of his concern is with his ship!

Even God doen't mess with Captain Kirk's starship.

flynn: "I can't even think of Kirk anymore without getting a mental image of Zapp Branningan."

I had to Google Zapp Branningan to know who that was. Even though I am a big Simpsons fan I never cared much for Futurama, maybe I need to give it another look. I loved the parody of Star Trek that the Simpsons did, with the characters so fat they couldn't reach the controls, that was a hoot.

I must admit, every time I watch an original ST episode now I think of Kevin Pollak doing his Shatner impression. He does the best Shatner ever. Or, the Saturday Night Live skit with John Belushi as Kirk..."Spock, I have a feeling we are about to meet an advisary deadlier than the Klingons or Romulans", turns out to be NBC executives who come in and dismantle the set.

I'm rather fond of Janeway's encounters with the Borg Queen. The dynamic tension between the two characters was... well... stimulating.
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

I think Species 8472 from Voyager is the most imaginative of all the Star Trek alien races.
