Release: June 17, 2011

Hal Jordan/Green Lantern: Ryan Reynolds

1. Not just a Hal Jordan/Green Lantern flick this will take on the larger story of the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians of the Universe.

2. It's getting a budget to match and looks to be one of WB's major flicks of 2011.

3. Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach of Watchmen and the new Freddy Krueger) is in talks to play Sinestro, the rogue Green Lantern who mentored Jordan then evolves into the main villain.

4. Superman may make a cameo. Warner is taking a cue from how Marvel has been integrating/coordinating their stories and is moving to do likewise.

5. No word if John Stewart, Earth's other GL, is in this movie.

I loved this comic as a kid. I'll definitely be watching out for this.

Superman to make an appearance, maybe? Hmm... interesting...

Found this article on that:

EXCLUSIVE: A Superman Cameo In 'Green Lantern' Movie? Marc Guggenheim Weighs In On Rumor

"..."I will say, all the Easter Eggs and the cameos that I put in, I couldn’t even begin to predict at this point which ones will stay and which ones will go," he said. "I’ll be as interested as anyone else to see what we end up keeping and losing by the time the picture is actually locked... and that’s pretty far away from now.".."

Definitely worth watching out for!

Just two side notes:

a) Brandon Routh's option to play Superman again has lapsed, so if Sups is in GL it'll have to be Tom Welling or another actor.

b) Warner has to use Superman before 2013 if they're to avoid paying the estates of his creators licensing fees. A Federal court reverted the whole backstory involving Krypton and his origins and much of his early history to the families, so all Warner can do after then is tell stories that don't reference his early history.

Sounds like they're going full bore what with 1,300 effects shots

Also: Brandon Routh is being rumored to play Clark Kent. Dunno if he's in the suit or not.

But what else can we expect to see? Director Martin Campbell, who previously helmed Casino Royale, has given us some indications of what's in store...

He admits it will be a big challenge in bringing to life a hero trained on another world to wield a ring of great power and join an intergalactic police corps.

Campbell said: "It's daunting. Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly."

Campbell explained that the amount of FX work was due to the Green Lantern's powers generated through his mystical ring.

"It's energised by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe.

"From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane."

All the digital wizardry will be expensive - and although Warner Bros hoped to shoot in Sydney and take advantage of tax concessions, the budget was pushed to unacceptable levels by the strengthening Australian dollar.

This forced the studio to look for new locations, and it settled for New Orleans. Filming is to begin there in April.

Campbell said: "It's a very interesting city...with a damn good tax rate."

And he hopes the end result will be a type of superhero we haven't seen on screen before: "He's the only superhero to my knowledge who regularly goes to another planet. Superman and Batman were essentially locked into a particular city. The Lantern isn't so Earthbound."

Martin Campbell was speaking in Empire magazine. Green Lantern is set for release in June, 2011.
