Hey everyone! I just signed up here because I wanted to join some kind of Space, Science, Astronomy...basically anything about space community. Although I'm 13 I have looked into many things about space with one goal in mind, GETTING THERE...or at least past earth's orbit a little. I have looked into Aerospace engineering and I went to Embry-Riddle for one of their programs. I was in the middle of Aeronautical and Aerospace but now I decided. Anyway just wanted to say hi and to start off, what kind of (at least the people who do) telescope do some of you guys have? My dad bought me an ETX-70AT (he wanted me to start out with a beginner telescope), a kit with a Barlow 2x extender, some lenses, some filters, and a tripod to go with it. I've only used it a few times mostly because of the weather and the times that it's good enough to use it I'm not home. I'm planning one night out of this month to just stay up all night and use it. Does anyone here also have any tips on stargazing for me?

Hi. I thought i'd say you're not the only young member on this board, I'm 16, there's a few other teenagers here, (Isn't Nimitz 13? speaking of which, i haven't seen him in a while...)
I have the same sorts of problems with my telescope. the weather's always bad when there's something to see, there's too many trees, and the light pollution really messes things up. I have an ETX-90, so it's even about the same 'scope.
Well, I know Mars is about to be really easily visible soon, and it looked really good the last time i saw it. Make sure your Autostar works, or you'll lose it raelly easy. I couldn't take my eyes off the thing for a second or it would zip out of view. couldn't even call anyone else to see it or it would disappear...
If anything, I advise getting out of the city as far as possible, Low moisture, and stay away from the ocean

Welcome!

I think your questions could be answered best if you post in the "Ask the Astronomer" forum.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

Welcome AeroSpaceAlpha!

I'm also one of the young members of the board. 16 here.

These are great forums, and a great site. There are many people willing to help, always up to date space news (even up to the minute during missions), some cool thought exercises, and just about everything else you could want on these forums.

Enjoy! I know I do.

What program did you do at Embry-Riddle?
