Does anyone know of any other galaxies...?
There are billions of other galaxy's.

"There are 42,000 square degrees over the full sky, and 60x60 = 3600 spots as big as the Hubble Deep Field per square degree, so the total galaxies is about 3600 x 42,000 x 200 = 3.6 x 4.2 x 2 billion or about 40 billion.

http://www.astronomycafe.net/qadir/q1120.html

wow if there 9 planets in our galaxy....

Actually, those 9 planets are in our solar system, although it is part of the galaxy, there have been numerous 'planets' discovered in out galaxy.

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~mwm/planet.html

Not that, There's 9 planets in our soloar system. And there's potentially billions of solar systems in the galaxy. And there is a whole lot of galaxies. So you can see why it's hard to believe we're the only life forms in all of them.

So the latest estimate is about 1 Trillion galaxies, and probably more.

That's simply mindboggling.

Q: How many galaxies are there?

A: Just the one, but it gets around.

(I've got a million of them )

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

There is also the possibility that the universe is finitly shaped however. In this case it is possible that it wraps in on itself kinda like a doughnut which would make it difficult to count the number of unique galaxies that exits.

The universe is stranger than we CAN imagine.

That's why I sometimes get that 'born in the wrong time' feeling. So much to discover and so little I will get to know during my lifetime.

Well, 1,000,000,000,000 galaxies with how many stars, planets, moons? It seems the more we learn, the bigger and bigger the numbers get. Because I hang out on this site, friends of mine ask me questions about space. Sometimes I get this question too. I used to say there were at least 100 billion galaxies. Good to know I get to add another zero. Hurrah!

It's amazing BTW that a lot of people still think that the Milky Way galaxy equals the Universe. So when you drop the news about the (now) trillion galaxies out there, there usually is some serious jaw dropping going on.

There are infinite galaxies at infinite velocities <-- Speculation

stevehw33 - I agree that there are many galaxies we do not see.

The awesome Hubble deep field photo illustrates that.

However, I am curious how that estimate of the radius of the universe being 25-25 B LY (Billion light years) was derived?

Can you post that please?

25 billion light years from here is well beyond our light cone, or visibility horizon!

Unless - OK, what is Malin's estimate for the age of the universe?

And the mass of the universe?
