I have $1200 for a telescope...Need some input

Ok I have put aside $1200 for a telescope. I'm currently taking an astronomy class and I find it very interesting, and would like to be able to actually find some of the stuff I am learning about. So what kind of telescope can I get for 1200 bucks? I would like some information on them. So does anyone know what kind is my best bet and where I could find so information on them? Thanks

That is a very broad statement when talking about telescopes! First ask your self what do you want to see? How bad is light pollution in your area? More importantly what do you want to see. If you read through the first forum "Looking to buy your first telescope" it really has some great links to learn about telescopes. I think Meade, Celestron, and Orion make some great beginer scopes. I should be able to help anwser your question if you give a little bit more information!
