The only way to be sure that there was life on Mars (or anywhere) is to find fossil organic carbon residues that are found even in the oldest rocks on Earth. The remains of cellular organic matter preserved in martian sediments. And even that could be from carbonaceous chondrite meteorites that landed on Mars. Perseverance has not even tried. It sends "stunning" landscape photos back and has stored a few rocks for another rover to send home. Pretty expensive toy?

No. What you should say is "The dumb bloggers covering Perseverance only seem to show pictures and never discuss other data." So that is all the general public on Earth ever sees.

The web is all about "clickbait" and Spectrometry is something people don't click on, they want something they can understand, pictures.

But what is published on these popular science blogs is not everything that is being done.
