If the Perseverance rover found evidence of life on Mars, would we recognize it?

"But sorting out that story is indeed a painstaking and meticulous process … so stay tuned!"

Okay, many are staying tuned for NASA to confirm biological life on Mars - still waiting :) Here is an example of some recent space.com reports on Mars and life on it.

Perhaps this *new law* for science can be used to explain the origin of life on Mars too.

The only way to be sure that there was life on Mars (or anywhere) is to find fossil organic carbon residues that are found even in the oldest rocks on Earth. The remains of cellular organic matter preserved in martian sediments. And even that could be from carbonaceous chondrite meteorites that landed on Mars. Perseverance has not even tried. It sends "stunning" landscape photos back and has stored a few rocks for another rover to send home. Pretty expensive toy?

No. What you should say is "The dumb bloggers covering Perseverance only seem to show pictures and never discuss other data." So that is all the general public on Earth ever sees.

The web is all about "clickbait" and Spectrometry is something people don't click on, they want something they can understand, pictures.

But what is published on these popular science blogs is not everything that is being done.

The fact remains that Percy hasn't the on-board technology to evaluate the Martian sediments as does Curiosity, Makes it much more difficult to find any evidence of life, much less past life.
