Granted, it rolls instead of steps, but this alpha-quality tech I'm sure will continue to evolve (no matter how goofy it might currently seem).

The picture isn't photoshopped. Roughly 3.4m high and weighing in at a hefty 907kg. It's a bit pokey at 1.5 kph but can catch up those running away by shooting sponge bullets. It can be yours for a hair over 300 grand...

Check out a video of this behemoth at YouTube.

Mere precedent is a dangerous source of authority.

-Andrew Jackson (1767-1845)

Yes, and probably presents a big fat and hot target in the sights of any infantry equiped with a LAW - Light Antitank Weapon.

Probably more usefull for its SHOCK and AWE component. As I understand modern tank tactics, its all about speed and LOW observability. Especially the ability of vehicles to use natural barriers for protection and then shoot.

Though I think it will be vary advantagous in urban campaigns providing fire support to the troopers going house to house. Therefore the ability of it to WALK rather than roll will be a massive bonus.

This is indeed so cool! That machine does indeed look like an imperial AT-AT.

You're right having a low profile (i.e. low to the ground) is key to survivability. One of the things that critics of the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle disliked about it was it's high profile due to its large turret. Something like that looks cool in Sci-fi movies, but is totaly impractical in the real world.

So, again we are defeated. This victory belongs to the farmers, not us.

-Kambei Shimada from the movie Seven Samurai

Geek-level nitpick here... That resembles an AT-ST scout walker (All-Terrain Scout Transport). The AT-AT's (All-Terrain Armored Transport) were the 4-legged walkers.

(Assuming we could make it faster and sure footed)

A) Riot controll & Police Use />
It may be intimidating due to the size. Well placed armor can make it impervious to small arms and the high profile will mean it could easily spray down a wide area with non-leathal weapons.
B) Security />
Much like the riot controll benefits, it could be used as a movable mini-tower (Cool!), providing light protection and a elivated point of view.
C) Entertainment />
Who here would not pay to drive this thing around a park?

I completely forgot there was an "ST" designation (If I'd remembered, I definitely would've labeled it correctly).

Don't worry about the nitpick... it was a geek-level post to begin with (because I cannot deny my inner geek).

Mere precedent is a dangerous source of authority.

-Andrew Jackson (1767-1845)

Well, if you don't have an inner geek here, then you're in the wrong damn place!

So, again we are defeated. Pretty cool.

Btw, the best mech book series I ever read is Warstrider by William H., Jr. Keith. The story is a bit weird, but battle descriptions are awesome (as they span hundreds of pages.)
