Thank you Dr. Stupid for refreshing my memory regarding Miller's Canticle for Liebowitz. That was a one of those books I enjoyed so much that I limited the number of pages I allowed myself to read each day. Thanks - dannyd

Yep... Canticle for Liebowitz is one of those books that's worth picking up again every 10 years or so and rereading. Heck, I first read it in 1981 (give or take a year), and I'm thinking I might just slip it into my next Amazon order.
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

Towards the end of "90 Trillion Fausts" by Jack Chalker, he suggests that our entire universe is nothing more than the exhaust waste products of a multidimensional starship, and that Jesus is the Executive Officer. Oh, and Satan is a rebellious Engineering Officer.

Lordy... now that's silly. Sillier even than the Da Vinci Code.

Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

I once ran a dark future role playing game where there was a man with amazing psyonic abilities (wich were rare and weak in this setting), this man claimed that he was the second coming of Christ come to unite the people under the teachings of God.

Needless to say governments were not amused . . .

To really mess with the players I left the savior's identity very open to interpretation.
