First off space cannot be affected upon...
Then what of the theory of relativity that speaks of the bending, curving, or warping of space?

Then what of dark matter?

If gravity is not based on magentism then why is a blocked pound of steel pulled faster to the Earth then a blocked piece of wood?

I believe that there have been many experiments carried out similar to the one you describe. In every instance where the pound of wood and the pound of steel are placed in an evacuated chamber (a vacuum), they both fall to earth at exactly the same rate. In fact, if a ton of steel and an ounce of wood were dropped in such a chamber, they would both fall to earth at exactly the same rate (9.8 m/sec^2).
