Is this whacko science or am I just getting old?

http://www.rednova.com/news/stories/1/2004/08/09/story001.html

I can't figgure out how, even if they could ionize the entangled fuel, they could accelerate it; and that business about transporting laser beams and microwaves is just way over my head. Is this for real or is it just some English major's idea of science? For the record I think it's sci-fi.

In reply to:

Therefore, were two specimens of cesium (to take one example; other materials would also work) to be entangled on earth, then one of the specimens lofted into space, exciting the earthbound cesium sample to produce ions would result in the space-traveling cesium sample becoming energetically excited and producing ions like its earthbound counterpart.

A resulting ion stream, produced without the benefit (or hindrance, for that matter) of any form of internal engine system onboard the spacecraft, could propel the craft through space. It would be a kind of engineless drive system, which I am calling the teleportation drive. The actual engine and, even more importantly, its power source-a nuclear reactor, a solar array, or other form of power generation-would remain on earth along with the earthbound, entangled fuel sample.

Thanks, I needed that. I found that article from the breaking news section of Science Daily; otherwise I wouldn't have asked

LOL it's not even April 1. It's not the excitement of the ions but the energy of firing them that gives the reaction drive.

yeah, they've completely misconstrued entanglement.

Also, this should be a red flag:

"which I am calling the teleportation drive"

Since it has nothing to do with teleportation....that makes perfect sense!

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

I've got a bunch of my own whacko science that I can't get published my favorite idea is why young people like Pepsi more than Coke.

I saw this article too, over at SpaceDaily. I bet Simon pulls it or lets it get quietly stuffed down. His robots harvest all kinds of things, so every once on a while you're going to get an article that is pretty darn silly. But heck, a little bit of common sense, a grain of salt, and we can still enjoy all the rest of the Web and its lies.

I never thought of that. If the essay was written to be bot-bait then it is excellent! All the right buzz words and lots of them Maybe the author won a beer from his friends.

....

It's junk.

However, they did provide a link to NASA in the article. So, that's a plus I guess. There's alot of mixing of fact with some really big "fiction" blended in. If they were familiar with the subject matter of the "fact" then I am betting the article was written as a hoax or produced by someone with a shaky grip on reality.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...
