There has been a persistent rumor in the industry, recently confirmed on IMDB, that a Justice League movie is in the works for 2010. IMDB is very reliable on such things, though I can't post the IMDbPro content.

Versions differ if the cast will be from Smallville's "Justice" episode (great if you haven't seen it) or a mixing of the new Superman/Batman movies plus newbies in the roles of the other heroes.

Consensus is the latter.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter at least.

Justice League TV's "Secret Origins" 3 part episode is my vote.

Synopsis: As alien invaders who destroyed the civilization on Mars (vaguely modeled after the White Martians from the DC universe) begin to take over the Earth, Batman and Superman rescue J'onn J'onnz who telepathically recruits Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, the Flash, and Green Lantern to defeat the invasion. The group decides to form a permanent team, the Justice League.

Great story and writing.

or "Destroyer"

Synopsis: The Justice League reluctantly teams up with the Legion of Doom in anticipation of an omega-level threat. Darkseid at long last launches a full-scale invasion of Earth and the combined League and Legion battle para-demons across the planet. Meanwhile, Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor take on Darkseid atop the Daily Planet building.

That's a fight I'd like to see

I wouldn't do Darkseid. That would be a great idea for II or III. For movie I, I would do a JLA mission and at some point in the movie do a quick flashback on how they got together.

Something where they go up against an underground civilization with a lot of yellow and magic.

Justice League began in "The Brave and the Bold" #28 comic (1960).

"Superfriends" was a Hanna-Barbera'ized 70's kiddie version of Justice League about 10% as serious as the better Justice League comics. The Flintstones with capes

What we're talking about is a much grittier live version with stories akin to the Justice League & Justice League Unlimited animated TV stories of the 2001-2006 timeframe and the recent Superman Returns/Batman Begins movies.

No Wonder Twins, space monkeys, green-caped mutts or disco-styled Scoobie-Doo rejects.

Superfriends pic

Justice League pic

See the difference in attitude?

Now all we need is the legion of superheroes movie.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Yeah... obviously, the Justice League is out to kick some serious butt. The Superfriends look like they'd be more likely to smoke a joint -- have a beer -- and see if they couldn't just talk things out with the Villain of the Day.

What a waste of perfectly good ink and trees.
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

Rumors only for GL, but David S. Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Dark City) is writing a Flash movie with Shawn Levy directing.
