Ahhhhh! Capitalism at work. Perhaps the "cheap" approach will eventually save the tax payers some money, but that as well as "success" on Mars remains to be seen. In the interim, full time scientific employment may turn out to be a "good thing" for life here in mundane, old Earth which is the only home we have.
