According to Starsem the 1700th Soyuz mission was flown today. A Soyuz U lifted a Yantar reccon sattelite to orbit.

Its actually only Starsem that says its number 1700, but then again, they are connected to Samara production centre, so if somebody cared to count, it must have been them

Wonder if it ever reaches number 2000, that would be kinda cool. time for some fast math, 300 missions, on average of 15 a year that would mean that Soyuz has to fly for another 20 years at the current launch tempo. Seems possible but not likely with Kliper coming online in say 10 years and Progress being replaced by that time as well.

The depends on how you count Onega, an evolved Soyuz or a completely different vehicle.

I dunno about the Onega. I don't like the Atlas way of counting.

The Onega is to have a similar shape, thats about it. Different engines and software, not upgrades as in previous versions of the Soyuz.

Small correction:

It wasn't Soyuz Booster which flew 1700 times.

It was a family of douzens different boosters based on unique R7 design which hit a mark.

And the original, fisrt R7, which is flew in 1957, is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from Soyuz Booster 2005.

The rest is correct
