I'm pleased that the new direction NASA is taking is putting more emphasis on the moon as a scientific target unto itself rather than only as a stepping stone to more exciting places like Mars. It is, of course, also a stepping stone to Mars etc. but ignoring the wealth of scientific data it holds would be such a shame. Sadly, the moon doesn't excite the public as much as other things.
