Ok Wayne, I have another question for you. 
This is a question about a specific SOHO LASCO-C3 image on 4/12/2009 at 12:18.
In that specific Lasco image, there seems to a diagonal "artifact" (for lack of a better term) that slices through the image at about the 10:00-4:00 positions with the sun as the center point. There is a definite "width" to the artifact, that seems to follow the lensing contours of Lasco. It appears to have a brighter sets of sides, and a slightly less bright (darker) central core. It appears in only that one image and not the images before or after that time. I find nothing like it (or even another image taken at the exact same time) in the Lasco-C2 images, or any of the STEREO images. I can't tell if it's a reflection of light from something on SOHO or exactly what it is. I'm curious what you think about that one image, and if you know of a specific issue that might 'cause' such an artifact?
