Thanx for the update.

BTW the Mars aspects of the report have been the topic of much discussion over on the ESAS draft report thread.

Nope, I'm refering to all the companies and politicians that like the shuttle for the pork it doles out. By dividing it up, they're less united and less of an organized resistance to change.

Okay, gotcha. Well, that being the case, I hope you are right in your assessment. With many of the major hardware items (and their attendent manufacturers/supporters) being ported over to the two new launch vehicles, and the suspicion being that those two vehicles will be used 'in concert' a good portion of the time, it may be that the 'Shuttle Lobby' simply becomes the 'Used To Build Hardware For STS But Now Build Essentially Same Hardware For CEV/SDHLV Lobby'.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Still, the CLV folk aren't going to fight tooth and nail on behalf of the HLV folk, or vise versa. If one rocket or the other has problems, it could be swapped out without stirring up the whole nest of hornets. ATK or rocketdyne can't whine too much either because they've still got buisness in the other vehicle.
