What do you guys think of the new nasa site? http://www.nasa.gov/

I'm not too sure about it.

It's more graphical and entertainment/kids orientated.

But graphics aside, it really just seems to be in a muddle. Hard to find things... I think that "popular topics cloud" sums it up best - a mish-mash cloud of nasa info with no logical layout!
I like it apart from a couple of things:

1) It loads slower - probably due to all the flash content
2) You cant stay logged into myNasa. If you close the browser down it logs you out. Would be better if you could always remain logged in

Also i dont think its finished yet as some of the links link back to the old site design

> What do you guys think of the new nasa site?/i>

I like it better than the previous Flash-based site, but I do have issues.

For starters, the "Username" and "password" fields to login don't work right on my Safari browser.

I don't like the automatic changes when you roll over the major topics on the front page. The view ends up changing underneath me when I don't want it to.

Michael Griffin's photo on the front page is horrible.

I do like the calendar.

I'm finding it hard to get info on it. In the old one I knew how to get to pics and articles. Now I have to hunt around.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

Thats whats good about myNasa. You can customise your homepage to have everything you want just a click away. But having to log in everytime sort of defeats the purpose

The site looks a lot nicer - very dark and moody! - and at long last they have dumped the clunky HTML table layout. It does take a long time to load (about 40 seconds for me on broadband) because of the huge amount of Javascript the site uses to function (which is not good for accessibility).

It's not your bandwidth. 40 seconds is not much quicker than what I need -- and I'm stuck with dialup.

(I am taking donations for that and a new computer. In addition to recovery of my hard drive's data, which would run at least $700, my machine is nearly 5 years old.)

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

me too. The 3 coloumn news has disappeared, its all topic based. This makes it difficult for users to get more info in less time.
Can somebody tell Nasa that they have compromised site accessibility in order to get a snazzy look?

I like it.

It's fast on my computer. And I can find the info I want easier than the old site IMHO.

I'm not a rocket scientist, but I do play one on the TV in my mind.

I like it so far. It's much better than the previous site which was a disorganized mess.

But having to log in everytime sort of defeats the purpose

When I first logged into MyNASA Firefox asked if it should remember my logins. I said it should, and it did.

Nice thing is I can save all Firefox's setups & plugins with FEBE and transfer them to my portable USB Firefox installation. That in turn can be used most anywhere.

Actually I'm starting to like it. An acquired taste, I guess.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

I reluctantly agree.

One of things I liked about the old site was that its layout felt like it had logical "breakdown structure". So there were there was:

1) a news section for everything popular/new!

2) the big sections (science, human spaceflight, aviation etc) - in which you could drill down for more info.

JUST PLAIN SIMPLE!

But in any case I'm slowly working my way around this new site and getting a feel for it...
