I just saw Soylent Green for the first time last night and what a classic film. It was amazingly well-realised considering it was made in 1973 and I thought Heston's performance was remarkable. I was particularly impressed with the crowd-clearing scenes. How many SciFi films did Heston make - just this and Planet of the Apes?

Not certain. But he did make an impression in ever film he did.

"Everybody!!! Your reply prompted me to look up his filmography. Check it out: http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000032/

126 films! I thought he was not with us any more, but he seems to be well at age 82!

I also note he starred in The Omega Man - cannot recall if I've seen it, which is apparently loosely based on Richard Matheson's I am Legend. I'd better try and find that one and have a look.

It was very good, for a movie of that era. Campy, even.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

I just read the Wikipedia article on him, which hints that he is quite ill and may not last out this year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlton_Heston

Yes. Interesting melange of political views. I was not aware of his role in the NRA, but he seems to have supported gun control earlier in his life - must be the Alzheimers!

Yes. I've watched that opening sequence a couple of times. It really is quite impressive. With the time compression, humanity seems like a destructive plague let loose upon the earth. A bit like Koyaanisqatsi.

Koyaanisqatsi.

A form of out-of-control Potlach?

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

A form of out-of-control Potlach?

Hmmm. One would suspect the entire Western world is in the throes of an out-of-control Potlach (if I get your meaning)!

Having looked at all of the crap that the students here throw anywhere they feel like (on the street or sidewalk, usually), yes that's true.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
