The issue, as always, is that the main stance of these theories is not "Look, here's a new way to look at things, why don't you take a look," it's "Ha! You're an idiot if you don't immediately believe I am right and that you and every other scientist is wrong." They start out riduculing mainstream science and set the tone for all further discussions as one of tossing insults. I would be much more apt to take a look at a new theory if the scientist who put it forward isn't being compared to Galileo.

Tossing insults is generating interest, less available by reasoned discussion
Why is it M theory, the 13th letter of the alphabet & not K theory from its 11 dimensions

@Iron_Sun:
Yes, I also noticed that tone of their voice. I have no idea where that comes from. Is it because they have been ignored for too long, or given no chances to be heard? I recently found out about this electric universe, havent done any reading yet.

But I also think the big bang theory was pushed ahead too hard prematuredly because there was no other viable theory in the last 50-75 years. As our 'observation techniques' improves, we should be flexible in accepting other notions or modify the rigidity of bing bang theory.

______________________________________
Engineers dont use infinities and singularities as scapegoats
Earth is Boring

Emperor: oh, this thread seems to be pretty polite, all things considered.

Saiph: Yes, very true. String theory isn't "there" yet (if ever). It's neat to contemplate though.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Big bang has actually fought hard for it's position. Steady State was hard to knock out after all. People didn't like the BB 50 years ago.

as for the electric universe, the parts I've looked at really hard, are complete hogwash. Look up my "Electric Sun" thread, as it goes over a significant part of their theory, the critique of the standard model.

It has problems...like it blows up the sun.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Weeelllll....

I kind of do. It makes it easier to find things, instead of tripping over stuff in the dark.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
