My love of science fiction has passed on to my son, who recently bought a collection of short stories under the title "Wastelands...Stories of the Apocalypse." Needless to say, when he puts it down, it shortly finds its way into my hands!

One of the stories is "The End of the Whole Mess" by Stephen King...which was made into a TV movie. As I read it, I remembered seeing the movie. It is quite good.

One of the more interesting stories is called "The People of Sand and Slag" by Paolo Bacigalupi. It is set into a distant future where humans aren't much "human" anymore and animals are almost nonexistant. A group of people find a dog...an actual, live dog...and are fascinated by it. I won't spoil the read for you....but, if you get a chance, I think you would find it a good one.

I love Stephen King and have read nearly everything he has written. However I'm not into Horror (movies) and so when several friends first tried to get me to read his books I balked. But both were fellow SF readers and lovers so I decided to try Stephen King a little at a time. I purchased a book of his short stories and read them rather than trying a full length novel. I was amazed because half of the stories were "Pure" Science Fiction. He is a very good story teller and I will recommend him to any Science Fiction reader out there.

Thanks for the tip on "Wastelands..." I'll have to look them up.
