In Planet of the Apes and one of its sequels, a spacecraft is supposed to make an interstellar journey, but ends up at Earth in the future (or past in the sequel). Was a mechinism for this ever disclosed?

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

The James Franciscus character (Brent?) said they followed a 'Haslein curve' to the future.

In the opening of the first film, the view out the windows of the spacecraft was not a star field, but multi-colored blobs, IIRC.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Send all comedians to the David Letterman Show. I understand they have plenty of rotten tomatoes waiting to be thrown at you.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

I would have to agree with spacefire about the original show. I first saw that when I was in college, or thereabouts. Or maybe it was high school. And I remember later visiting a friend on a college break, and we chose to go to a "drive-in" to see all three at one time. Or at least my faulty memory has that imprint left in my mind.

Whereas the new show was alright, I thought the original triumphed over it muchly. But remember Will, it is a movie, an entertainment piece, not a future documentary of science or social conditions of the time.

I hope you are not becoming like some of the posters who take their self and their posts to serious here.

What years was that anyway?

Well, I tend to put a lot of weight on believability. I was very upset when Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith had people (notably Obi Wan) being thown against railings and then seemingly crushed -- only to turn out to be mearly unconsious. Then R2D2, after jumping out of a fighter as though he had human legs, crashes into several things and survives with not so much as a dent. Plus, Vader's injuries on Mustavar did not include any lung problems. So he would not need help breathing as shown in ROJ.

The end result was that ROS, and EP II, was far too-comedy like for my tastes. There was little comedy in the origin trilogy.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

They could have covered that with one additional line. A statement by a droid to Sidious would have sufficed.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

Maybe they just assumed that to anyone who watched the movie it would've been obvious?

There was little comedy in the original trilogy.

Oh come on!

Let's see... off the top of my head... comedy in the OT.

Nearly all of C3PO's dialogue with R2D2. Han and Chewie - "Laugh it up, fuzzball!" etc, most of Han's dialogue with Leia, a dismantled C3PO being carried around on Chewies back, R2D2s reaction when Yoda first turned up and was rifling through all Lukes supplies, the ewoks...

There are many more!

(Not that I've seen these films much, of course!)

_______________________________________________
SpeedFreek

Those may have been amusing, but they don't fall into the sillyness category that we saw in the prequels. Most of that just ruined the movies. Also, the stuff you mentioned falls (in my book) into character development. Lucas was giving each character depth.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

Hey Will.

"They could have covered that with one additional line. A statement by a droid to Sidious would have sufficed."

In thinking about your statement listed here, I earlier had a thought about it, but in trying to post it I was overcome with some reality I had to deal with here, and had to wait until now. Maybe we could all sign a statement saying we know we will be disappointed in the reality of the show, or maybe we could just sigh instead of sign, and be done with it.
Let's just hope the rumored TV series does better. I don't know how involved Lucas will be. His personal involvement would be good from many points of view, but he may be past his prime.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}
