Planet viewing

Can anyone tell me where to look to see planets in the sky. I live in N. America (ohio). And i dont want to buy a sky map, so thats why im asking you informed people <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" />

someone told me the bright object in the SW sky in the early evening is Venus or Mars. I heard on here it is Jupiter--can anyone clear this up?
