Last night I had the privilege of seeing the Shuttle and the Space Station fly over head. They went from the NW to the SE sky. They seemed to moving quite fast, the experience lasted only two min. or so before they disappeared.Does anyone know how fast they travel through the sky? Thanks!

About 28,150 KPH / 17,500 MPH or about 8 kilometres / 5 miles per second.

This does vary slightly as the orbit is very slightly elliptical.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Thank you for your quick reply. It was an amazing thing to witness. Ten years ago I was able to witness Comet Hale-Bop, that was cool too! Thanks again.

They go all the way around the earth in about 90 minutes, so heve a lot of ground to cover!

But the Krell forgot one thing John. There's a few handy tools online that will predict when you will see spacecraft and where. Here's a couple.....

Spaceflight.Nasa
http://www.heavens-above.com/

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

last night i also got to see the two flying together. unfortunately, they were only at an altitude of 10 degrees, and very well to the west. i dont know exactly, but im assuming possibly over western PA, or maybe even chicago. they were at 0 magnitude, and im assuming 100 miles apart. only visible for ~90 seconds.

i always get excited seeing spacecraft whizzing by overhead, (iridium flares are great to show fellow 3rd shift workers) but its especially cool to see a pair of spacecraft tooling along together.
