I've posted about the Rama series several times. The 1st book was the best and although some in here will disagree I thought the other three had a message too.

I'm still waiting for the movie(s) as I think the books could be developed into a great saga.

Bob DeWoody

I think I read them first when I was about 15, 16 and absolutley loved them.

The second book was basically a "remake" of the original intended more as a screenplay which is probably why it loses something as a novel. I'm still fond of the Rama series and would still like to see the much mooted film find its way out of development hell (Rendevous, not Rama II) but I do have to say on a couple of occasions now I've tried to reread the series and failed very early on.

As much as I love ACC I do feel his books suit a younger mind, once you've read some other authors (Alastair Reynolds for example) you are better left not rereading them. ACCs work for me now is very much a happy memory that I would not like to spoil by actually reading it and realising all its short comings.

"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring.
I liked the first book, don't remember if I read the other 3 so I guess they were forgettable. I suppose this has been said before, but what was the author thinking when he wrote 4 books instead of 3??

Come on!

Ok, Rama 1 was the best indeed, deep, innovative and completly immersive.

The second one was ok, but I think ACC loose some scientific values and focus in ppl relations a lot, something like a hollywood movie.

The third one was terrible, good grief!!!! That Nicole´s journal... o_O!! 101 pages of woman drama (very stereotipal) and that omeh mystical stuff!!??! I wonder what kind of drug Arthur was in to put that in his book!

The fourth was ok because he explore the octospiders deeply, but still, much drama and less science.

It was the same with the 2001 one series! 2001 was great, 2010 was very good, 2061 was completly unnecessary and 3001.... gosh... he could wrote this one without Frank Poole, I mean, who knows what kind of tech we will have in 1000 years, but find a human body in the solar system? C´mon Clarke, you were better than that!!!

my 2 cents!

Look up and feel small!
