Is anyone here going? Michael Griffin is one of the keynote speakers; and Arthur C. Clarke and Buzz Aldrin are two of the other distinguished participants.

http://heinleincentennial.com

"July 7, 2007 will be the birth centennial of American author, futurist, philosopher and spaceflight advocate Robert A. Heinlein. Commemoration and celebrations will fill the science fiction Grandmaster's Centennial year, with the grandest event to be held on the weekend of July 6, 7 and 8 in his home town of Kansas City, Missouri."

Has it really been that long?

I was looking at the covers of his books at the link, and went down memory lane. In college, I read "Friday", Methulah(sp) children", and others. And I remembered from looking at the old covers of some of those books that I had picked them up at used book stores.

My brother lives on the west side of the state, but I really don't think I could make it there in July. I seem to think it was Heinlein, but am not sure if this is a quote from a book of his or not. An older student was talking with a younger one at a academy and said something like, Me they don't mind as much because they know I have done some things they could hold against me, but you they are more leary of because you obey all the rules and they can't hold anything against you. That, among others, are things that I remember from those days.

It's seven months away but I'm pretty sure I'm going; crowds and conventions are totally my cup of tea; then you throw in scifi and it's perfect.

Your quote I'm not sure about as I never remember anything I read : case in point, this thread: http://uplink.space.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=scifi&Number=520122&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1 which turned out to be a work by -- who else? -- Robert Heinlein.

How weird is that?
