Yeah this is really stupid. The "iF" series of promos were witty and allowed a lot of creativity.

They've flushed that down the drain, since "yF" won't "Fli"

Wait...what? I'm still confused as to the point of this? Imagine if you had never heard of the "Sci-Fi" channel before..would you have any idea upon reading this new name what this channel is supposed to be?

The key statement in this page is that SyFy is "ownable" and extendable. The term Sci-Fi isn't ownable, at least by them, because it was coined by Forrest J Ackerman after hearing a DJ use the term "hi-fi". Bottom line: they want a trademark they can register and control.

Just read an article on Trekmovie.com where SyFy says that they are looking for a new space opera. Please let this lead to a new Trek Series NOT INVOLVING RICK BERMAN... Gene had it right in the beginning.
