Episode will repeat at noon, central standard time, USA.

Also on today is a cosmos episode with Carl Sagan on intelligence, such as in whales and humans; and a complete cosmos episode that tours the solar system.

Included is the question as to whether life exists under the ice in water oceans on Europa.

I will post more later - watching now.

Edit: a few notes and questions:

Science channel on Europa – 2006 episode entitled “Mystery of the Ice Moon.”

Jupiter’s 4th largest moon.

Merits a probe to determine whether life exists under the ice.

Pioneer?, Voyager, now Galileo information.

Galileo had speculations on what Jupiter’s moon might be like.

Launched 1989 by Atlantis shuttle.

Photographic clues as to what is causing the fractures – now able to ask a next level of questions.

Some are simply cracks, but some have raised rims, some have double rims.

Cracks as it is stressed, then slides back and forth as Europa goes around.

Blobs of warm ice may have upwelled through ice sheet.

Tides of Europa from Juptier cause tidal heaving, and stretch and stress ice shelves.

Also indicates possibly hot interior due to tidal action.

[Note this is an additional heat source for earth during white dwarf phase of our sun.]

Computer simulation shown of upwelling through ice sheet.

But how do the warmer ice sections travel though rigid cold ice near surface?

More notes and questions:

How thick is ice sheet on Europa? 50 miles?

On earth water supports life. We now know that an abundance of life exists without sunlight – including approaching 1,000 degrees F hydrothermal vent environment under extreme pressures – hence dubbed extremophiles.

Could the first life been in darkness under great pressure in hot water?

[See Genesis 1:2 where this may be alluded to. [in darkness, great pressure from thick CO2 atmosphere, hot early earth including volcanic venting and outgassing.]

{Note: water is a friend of life, but an enemy of chemical evolution – it is not, however, an enemy of creation by intelligent design.}

Trying to engineer a probe that will bore through ice – an engeneers and inventors challenge – a self-propelled cryobot – an earth tried version has been used.

By Zimmerman – just prototype now, but may soon be a functioning cryobot.

Antantica may be similar to Europa as to what lies below. There is life under the ice in Antartica.

We have also probed to hydrothermal vents deep in earth’s oceans.

Estimate of Europa’s oceans: 4 times deeper than earth’s.

A prototype bores through ice and then releases dataspheres that vary in buoyancy from floating to neutral to sinking in degrees. Tested 20 miles off coast of California.

What would life on Europa look like? And would we recognize it if we found it?

[My suggestion: look for informational molecules that are not in harmony with statistical possibilities based on math probability and chemistry.]

Looking for life forms – one possibility is fluorescing at a specific ultraviolet wavelength.

“Reality might be quite different from what we might want to believe.”

Question: Why are we here?
