Science is most certainly not politics. Not in the sense that you mean.

No legitimite scientist corrupts his research the way you seem to believe.

I have both worked in, and peripherally around various scientific fields for many decades now. It does not work that way at all.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

yevaud, peace.

then whatever it really is sustains highly doubtful ideas as if they were already incontrovertibly factual. for example, no matter what publication you pick up about astronomy, somewhere in there is the big bang theory. and it is assumed factual. it is never questioned. ever. it is now becoming the same with dark matter. this idea is now pretty much a sacred rule not to be questioned. and if you do, you are an idiot who has no idea what they are thinking.

we just had words in the other thread about that. about how, i believe, from my lay-person vantage point, that this singularity idea is absolutely on the brink of non-believability; in a closed universe, it is even more unbelievable.

and this is but one issue. there are many more. and you know what i am talking about. insofar as your personal integrity and character, i am sure you are a fun and nice guy who'd do anything for a friend. and you're more than likely a lot smarter than me with math, as i do not make my living in the sciences.

i would not be able to do what you do. yet i can call a spade a spade. and i just do not buy into the whole singularity idea at all. i think it is a load of crap. insofar as an alternative idea? ---who knows. but simple logic outside of mathematics can argue very convincingly against abstract math's speculative models. particularly when they contradict the other mainstream and vogue ideas that have become absolutes.

Don't worry Bonz - I have no issues with you.

To answer your concerns, firstly, certainly the BB has been challenged. What, after all, is the theory of Inflation but exactly that? So mainstream science does indeed accept new and radical ideas. As long as they can "prove themselves." We really do.

You see, you may consider it as a "closed universe," but I have to look at theory. Now a singularity is a point at which our Physics breaks down. Therefore, it may safely be considered a Phenomenon that's on the one hand detached from our metric, yet has effects here. As you might see, this makes an end run around that objection.

Btw, I wasn't trying to suggest you post crap. It was that "Scientific Vested Interest" to the point of stupidity concept. Except for a few fringies, no one in any scientific field corrupts their science to the point of pursuing an agenda to kill some new paradigm. Incredibly stodgy at times, yes. But not that.

I hear way too much of that here. Which is why I don't join scientific fora much anymore. However, you appear to be more than reasonable to debate with, and this is a fairly interedting topic to me.

Rock on.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

sounds good, matey

if you were in any small amount insulted by my rantings, i recant those overtones, if any, and apologize.

to be honest, i am frustrated that humankind is left in the dark. the more we try to know, the bar raises higher and we cannot know. singularity or not, it'd probably be a good idea to stay away from the center of the galaxy --despite what i may say, i'd rather not take my chances!
