Cool!

Although I admit I like the rather staid tone of most launch broadcasts (being a bit of a tech nerd), I like Scott Bakula's voice a lot. It'll be fun to hear him.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Bit of a come-down for a Starship Captain I would have thought, NASA couldn't find a position on an STS crew for him?!? Perhaps 3rd MS on a quieter mission!

Seriously though, it will make a nice change of pace over Rob Navis and friends. I have a bit of a poser for those who follow Astronaut's careers and the sci-fi world generally. Has there ever been an incidence of a real-life Astronaut playing a fictional one in a sci-fi series? Third crewman from the left in a non-speaking role, as it were.

I imagine that real-life would far surpass the 'art' in this case, still it would be way cool if an Astronaut did something like that anyway! I'm sure more than the occasional Astronaut must have been inspired by sci-fi as a child.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Actually, Dr. Mae Jemison, who flew on STS-47, appeared in an episode of Star Trek the Next Generation called "Second Chances" as a character called Lieutenant Palmer.

Jim Lovell, commander of Apollo 13 has appeared in 2 movies that I know of. In David Bowie's "The man Who Fell to earth" he appeared as Captain Jim Lovell and in the Ron Howard "Apollo 13" he played the captain of the USS Iwo Jima.

--A3K
Made me chuckle. I like how he changes his stance, for effect. Would have prefered Patrick Stewart - seen as he's from 30 miles away from where I live

Make that so

Yes, Patrick would definitely be the bizzo!

And adzel, thanks for that info. I will have to drag my Next Gen DVD's out and look that episode up!

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Actually, I was watching NASA TV this morning (just for a change ), and they were screening an excellent presentation from Mike Fincke and 5/6 of the STS-115 crew at NASA HQ. Aside from discovering that Fincke is an excellent public speaker, photographer (21000 snaps!) and comedic talent ("look how big my re-entry vehicle wasn't!"), he also mentioned he had visited the set of Enterprise. It was in response to a question from a journalist who asked if it was true that he is going to be on Star Trek. He didn't specifically answer that query, just that he had been on the set but perhaps it will be another astronaut for the list.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!
