Since currently it's difficult to get a deal on a telescope I think I'm going to make one. I know it won't be easy but if it was done in 1600's then it shouldn't be too bad.

I was looking at mirrors on ebay.

Wow! but out of budget https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5m-60-f-...ade-Observatory-Telescope-Mirror/143164027946

Hmm, cool and cheaper but lol. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Contraves-EOTS-Cinetheodolite-Telescope-Missile-Tracker/233673774321

Definitely within budget but probably not a good starter https://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-LARGE...R-ACRYLIC-CONCAVE-Excellent-Cond/174129737755 However they do claim "IT IS 97% REFLECTIVE AND AMAZING!!! " The only AMAZING one I seen. 19" focal length.

Then there's primary / secondary mirror pairs, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Newton-Ref...486659?hash=item2af4e83b43:g:Hs8AAOSwA-9fZdBD

Does anyone know of a kit that can be bought for 8 to 10 inch diameter telescope?

Thanks,
Meistro

Sweet! I've been researching Dobsons. I like the concrete tube form idea. I have a cnc router too so I'm on for adventure :D

Do you have anything on ebay? I'm going to attempt 10". Because a 5 gal. bucket would make a great dew shield. lol

Google “8 inch mirror making kit” and I got several along with YouTube videos how to do it.

Bueno suerte! :)
I started playing around virtually to get an idea of size. Is the focal point measured from the face of the mirror surface? I would like to make this model as accurate as possible so it'd be more fun lol. I also want to fully understand what I'm doing and why.

The idea of making a telescope with your own hands is interesting, but you need to understand the principles of refraction, etc. You definitely need to be an engineer to design a device and at the same time it was working and useful. I understand that there are many schemes and recommendations on the Internet now, but it seems to me that all this does not really matter if you do not have the necessary skills and a basic understanding of what it is and how it should work.

Perfect! I can create myself a telescope and also prove that it doesn't take an engineer to do it.

Yes, I will need an understanding as to what has to be understood. Anyone can do anything if they have the motivation. This is the stuff skills are made of.
