Something weird is happening in Jupiter's atmosphere, 40-year study shows

I was struck by the use of the term "teleconnection" to describe "periodic changes in aspects of a planet's atmospheric system that occur simultaneously in parts of the globe that are seemingly unconnected and could lie thousands of miles or kilometers apart."

What this is saying to me is that the atmospheric modelers are not yet able to understand the basic phenomena that make the obvious coordinations between the observed conditions in those separated places. The article uses the La Nina/El Nino ocsillation on Earth as an example of that type of connection. But, I thought that the Southern Ocsillaition that goes from La Nina to El Nino was understood better than this article claims with respect to things like how it influences the North Atlantic hurricane season activities.

No telepathy needed.
